Iced coffee and “French pineapple bun” to beat the heat

With Hong Kong having just seen the hottest ever May on record, what could be better than having a sip of ice-cold coffee on a hot day and taking a bite off a “French pineapple bun”?

The Tong Chong Street Market is making a return this June for a street food carnival, with Blue Bottle Coffee bringing over their coffee truck featuring refreshing summer drinks along with exclusive items – “French pineapple bun” in collaboration with Patisserie Ché – an uprising online pastry shop specialized in making classic French pastries with a twist of Hong Kong flavors.

The “French pineapple bun”, or the vanilla choux, is a feather-light pastry enriched with vanilla pastry cream. It resembles the essence of the local favorite – pineapple bun – with its crunchy, crumbly and golden crust.

Instead of the butter, biting into the “bun” gives you a mouthful of silky vanilla surprise and the thirst for a second bite.

Along with the palm-sized Vanilla Choux is the hazelnut choux, molded into a floral-inspired donut shape. Fitting into the street food theme, this grab-and-go version of choux enables you to share it with your friends simply by tearing the small airy cream puffs apart, leaving you and your friends stunned by the subtly sweet hazelnut filling.

Apart from the exclusive collaboration items, Blue Bottle Coffee is also offering the New Orleans-style Iced Coffee Float and Lemon Yuzu Fizz exclusively at the coffee truck.

Other than coffee, there will also be plenty of delicious food at the market. Look out for delicious British beer-battered fish and chips from Fish & Chick, sourdough bread and pizza brought by Mayse Artisan Bakery and more.
