Three additional service centers will open tomorrow to tackle the resubmission of applications for the government’s electronic consumption voucher scheme, Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po said.
The centers will be set up at Hong Kong General Post Office in Central, Wan Tau Tong Neighbourhood Community Centre in Tai Po and Leung King Estate Community Centre and Tuen Mun.They will open from 9am to 6pm from Monday to Saturday until September 15.
This comes after the first batch of HK$2,000 electronic consumption vouchers were distributed on September 1 to about 810,000 people who completed electronic registration online on or after July 18 or submitted paper forms.
But thousands of people, especially elderly who submitted paper forms, encountered problems and did not receive the vouchers. Hundreds queued up at Pioneer Center, Mong Kok to seek advice and resubmit their applications. The deadline for resubmitting information has been extended for two weeks to September 15.
Writing on his blog today, Chan apologized for the long wait time and the the effort undertaken by the elderly, as they traveled a long way to the office to complete the procedures. “It shows that there are inadequacies in the government’s implementation, preparation and arrangement (for the voucher scheme) and there is room for improvement,” Chan said.
He said that there are about 10,000 registrations that cannot be further processed due to incorrect or incomplete information.
