Extra voucher centers seem to be paying off

Three additional service centers to tackle the resubmission of applications for the consumption voucher scheme started operations yesterday.

They are located at the General Post Office in Central, Wan Tau Tong neighborhood community center in Tai Po and Leung King Estate community Centre in Tuen Mun.

They are open from 9am to 6 pm, Monday to Saturday, until September 15, the extended deadline for those who were unsuccessful in submitting their applications.

At the same time, Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po apologized for the long waiting time for the elderly to drop off their documents at Pioneer Center in Mong Kok.

Unlike in the past few days at Pioneer Center, there were no crowds at the three new centers yesterday morning and people could enter without queuing.

Some seniors said it is convenient to see there are more centers to help them.

“I live in the Northern District. I should not have to go all the way to Kowloon or Hong Kong Island,” said an elderly woman who visited the Tai Po center.

A man who lives in Sha Tau Kok said the procedure was very quick and smooth in the Tai Po center.

Another man from causeway Bay agreed: “It was very quick and the entire procedure only took five minutes to complete.”

Some, however, said the new arrangements should have been made earlier.
